Ben Young is Professor of Structural Engineering and Associate Dean of the Graduate School of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Hong Kong. He received his education from the University of Sydney in Australia. His principal research interests lie in the areas of cold-formed steel structures, the testing and design of steel structures, structural stability, stainless steel structures, aluminium structures and the fire resistance of metal structures. He has published numerous articles and conferences papers in these areas, and has received various prizes, honours and awards for his work. He sits on the editorial boards of several international journals, and is the co-editor of Elsevier Science’s Journal of Constructional Steel Research. He has served on many technical committees, and has been involved in the development of the code of practice for the structural use of steel for buildings in Hong Kong. He is a Fellow of both the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
