Summary:  Nowadays, use of Structural Optimization techniques is rapidly growing in many fields like civil, mechanical, automotive, aeronautical, nuclear, naval, energy and off-shore engineering. This is due to the increase of technological competitiveness and the development of strong and efficient optimization techniques for many practical applications.

The purpose of this special session is to bring together researchers developing work in the general field of Structural Optimization, covering, but not limited to, mathematical, computational and experimental investigations. Contributions are invited on all topics of Structural Optimization, namely: Shape, sizing and topology optimization; Homogenization, hierarchical, discrete and multiscale optimization; Inverse problems; Optimization of composite, nano, smart, multifunctional and ceramic materials; Optimization in linear and non-linear dynamics, impact, fatigue, acoustics, heat transfer and fluid-structure interaction, among others.
